SECURITY IS REGISTERING ALL GUNS IN THE COUNTRY

A joint security team is in the process of registering all guns in the country. The team is comprised of UPDF, UPF, UPS, UWA, ESO, ISO working closely with relevant authorities.

So far, the team has registered all guns in the hands of the Police Force, Prisons service Private security and those privately licensed within Kampala metropolitan Area.

The team is concerned with capturing the data of each individual gun and marching this data with the holder. The team then forwards this data to the forensic experts for purpose of interpretation and storage using the Integrated Ballistics Identification Systems (IBIS).

It is important to note that individual guns have individual characteristics which differentiate them from others. This will make the work of tracking guns easier after their use.

While Finger Printing, the team will fire bullets from each gun so as to get the unique characteristics. The public is encouraged not to be alarmed when they hear the sound of guns in the specific areas as we shall be informing you. Tomorrow 16th April 2019, the team will embark on registering guns in Katonga region. The team is working to ensure that by the end of July, all guns.

ATTACKS ON MOBILE MONEY BUSINESSES

The briefing also revealed that there were increased reports of attacks on mobile money operators and businesses.

An incident that occurred on 9th April2019, at around 2330hrs was cited. That two (02) unidentified people who were traveling in an unidentified motor vehicle armed with a rifle waylaid one Magoma Isma, a mobile money agent at Nakaloke Central Cell, Nakaloke Town Council in Mbale District and robbed him of UGX 5,840,000, five (05) mobile phones and three (03) Matrix machines.

They shot and injured him as well as the boda boda rider, Muzamiru Maasa who was transporting him home.  The victims were taken to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.

On the same day at around 2200hrs, two (02) unidentified armed thugs attacked one Nampira Betty, a mobile money operator in Nansana West I Village, Nansana Division, Nansana Municipality and robbed her of UGX 3.3M.  The suspects shot in the air to scare off approaching residents.

On 7th April2019, at around 2100hrs, two (02) unidentified people attacked Mugisha Moses, a mobile money operator at Mpongo Trading Centre, Mpasana Sub-county, Kakumiro District and robbed him of UGX 1,370,000.  The suspects also shot and injured two (02) people who were part of the group trying to pursue them. The injured were taken to Hoima Hospital for treatment.
