By Our Reporter

Errant police officers, who beat up a journalist at Ministry of Health, are sitting on a hot sigiri (charcoal stove). The police unit responsible for the behaviour of officers; the Professional Standard Unit (PSU) has opened a file against the unprofessional officers.

According to PSU accountability note, case ref….PSU/KMP/GEF/79/2021 , which The Drone Media has obtained, shows the nature of offence as torture.

It should be remembered that the two errant officers attached to Wandegeya Police Station, Friday afternoon battered Pidson Kareire after they mistakenly thought he was taking pictures of boxes of facemasks, which were being smuggled away.

Surprisingly, they could not trace any of the photos they alleged the journalist had taken. This prompted them to think of any other offence that could rescue them from this assault case they had committed against the journalist. Upon taken Pidson Kareire; they preferred Dangerous Act likely to spread infection.

Officials at PSU wondered how a public entity like Ministry of Health could be a Dangerous Act since it is guarded by officers, who are armed with sanitizer; temperature guns etc They could not imagine an individual being charged with Dangerous Act.

Well, the journalist contacted Police Spokesman, Fred Enanga, who referred and recommended him to PSU, which immediately took up the case. He recorded a statement; thereafter went to a police surgeon and was examined. The wounds and injuries sustained were all included in the police surgeon’s notes.

In a criminal trial, the relation of cause to effect must be proved beyond a
reasonable doubt – the legal cause is that which is the most active and effective element in an
interaction that converts necessary and sufficient conditions into a result – The more
particularistic evidence there is that fits with a possibly applicable causal story, the stronger the
link with that tangible result.
