Jinja Police are searching for a shop owner on the run after a 2-year-old toddler was electrocuted to death in his retail shop.

The deceased Anita Mwanje was killed in Mpumudde West C cell 10 meters from home in the Southern division in Jinja city. Eyewitnesses say Mwanje was playing in the company of other children when they entered the shop.

Mwanje reportedly tried touching a live wire in one of the open sockets causing her electrocution. Her father, Matia Kavuma says that residents alerted him about the death of her daughter.

Deborah Nakyesa, the village local women council chairperson says the fault is on the parents for abandoning their child.

She says that most young couples within their area have a minimum of five children each. She, however, notes that the level of child negligence is on the rise. Kiira Regional Police spokesperson, James Mubi says that detectives inspected the scene of the crime and took the toddler’s lifeless body to Jinja Regional Referral hospital mortuary for postmortem.
