True, Kampala watched him smoking marijuana. Now after listening to a recording and watching docume ntary about Bobi Wine on one of the local TV stations which was clearly paid for, it was deduced that someone was up for a wild hype and re-branding, but who is pushing it and why? Honestly, this is not good for Uganda of tomorrow.
As it is there are deliberate lies about this young man being fed to society and over hyping his achievements. Be sure he’s also surprised about things they talk about him.
The truth is, Bobi Wine alias Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, grew up while Kampala watched, his main interest in life was boxing and music. This affected his progress in education and was later to leave school and pursue what he loved most.
His concentration was mostly in the ghetto where he teamed up with youths, a group they called Firebase Crew. This was a musical group but also known for drug abuse. Bobi Wine and his Vice President then Butcher-man are responsible for the popularizing drugs among the youth mostly in the ghetto. They would take the drugs in public and back stage and this would most often result into fights and injuries.
Kampala has watched Bobi Wine grow and until recently when he became MP his posture was for a gangster. Mbu the MDD diploma he got was more or less an honorary award which they got with other famed artists at the time including Kato Lubwama.
Bobi’s earlier lifestyle wasn’t for a person who could sit in class and concentrate. His character as a troublesome young man who preferred solving his issues through physical fights including in public places is well documented. It was even manifested in parliament recently; this means he wont strip off the fighting spirit.
It’s true Uganda as a country has real problems. There is an aging president with no clear succession plan. He has created many power centers in his divide and rule policies that could potentially explode if he wasn’t here tomorrow. The economy is not doing well and the structures of government no longer exist. There are semi-gods in government bodies who have made corruption a thorn in the flesh.
The problems of Uganda have nothing to do with Kyagulanyi. He doesn’t understand them and definitely can’t have a solution to them. He is into marijuana. It’s diversionary and wrong to put Ugandans problems and Kyagulanyi in the same scenario. Governance of most importantly dysfunctional government like this one needs seriousness and a sober person.
