Drivers of convoy cars

By Drone Staff
Drivers of convoy cars escorting high ranking officials are not exceptional, they can be prosecuted if they knock vehicles of other users intentionally. This is what the Road and traffic act calls for.
There are many complaints against drivers of convoy cars where other drivers have reported cases against them deliberately knocking motor vehicles of other road users.
It is disturbing. They have sirens, can cut off cars, because they have security why knock bona-fide road users? Anyway, these drivers need supervision, they do error most times. Not only they error, they cause death at times.
These days, many people feel like V.I.P and drive as if the roads were built for them, sometimes even pushing other road users, including pedestrians off the road.
Many times on our roads, we see “important vehicles ” including funeral vans, wedding convoys, traditional leaders driving enjoying the right of way.
But under the “Traffic and Roads Safety Act”, read together with the “Highway Code”, the “Right of Way” is reserved only for the President, Vice President, Police vehicles, Military vehicles, Emergency vehicles e.g ambulance, fire brigades.
However, a vehicle not falling into the above categories might enjoy the right of way if there’s a lead convoy composed of a Police vehicle, or military vehicle during deployment.
Other important things to note regarding road usage:
1. When driving in a populated area e.g town on a highway, the speed limit is 50km/ hr.
2. It’s also an offence to drink and drive, drink and walk, and drink and ride a boda boda.
3. A boda boda carries a maximum of two people i.e the rider and the passenger.
