Journalist’s eulogy

Sixteen years ago as a reporter with WBS TV then the only viewed private TV I was assigned together with Harrison Tembo to cover peace talks in Yumbe.

The peace talks were between West Nile Bank front and the the Government of Uganda led by the Late Eriya Kategaya and General Joram Mugume Souza the lead counsel with the Bàmugemereire Commission was the Legal Adviser, Abiriga was part of the group negotiating.

I found him a simple and approachable rebel who did not want to be seen on cameras or talk to the press he how ever sometimes volunteered information strictly in Swahili which he spoke fluently.

At the same talks we had the Noble Mayombo who would visit regularly who helicopter we uaed to send the recordings to Kampala since we did not satellite transmitters as what the Sabiittis, Moses Kasasa use today.

Abiriga I guess was the second in Command to the Late Maj Gen Ali Bamuzze at night Abiriga would stay little behind chatting with us before retreating to their camp at Bidibidi.

Later when the peace talks were concluded he and many others were reintegrated into the regular forces of UPDF.

I float tracked him and later came to hear him appointed RDC and later became MP.

I put it to you the killers you  have deprived Ugandans of  a dedicated servant who is not corrupt and good hearted one day take time off your devilish acts and repent for killing an innocent souls.

I say RIP to Hon. Abiriga and his brother  and I pray that God should punish you heavily you goons who killed Hon. Abiriga and the body guard.
