By Angela Nyakuni

Makerere University Kampala (MUK) has postponed the orientation of first year students, which was scheduled 1rst February, 2021.

“In order to ensure a wholesome experience of our great university, we are postponing the orientation of our freshmen and freshwomen which was due to begin on 1rst February, 2021 till further notice. We will announce a new date for orientation as soon as arrangements are finalized,” states an official from Makerere University.

This news did not please members of the public, Amuriat Abraham says, ” Being a campuser at this time is so frustrating. I hope they will come to terms with such issued statements as this.”

Xaaash Cali says, ” I am deeply disgruntled to hear this news because I have been waiting for years to attend this great university. Anyway, I hope things will change for the better way.”

Ivan Nolan Kwiki is of this view, ” This is really being unfair, some students are now caught up midway their journeys to Kampala, this kind of irresponsibility should stop. I mean government says this, NCHE (National Council of Higher Education) says that, the Nawangwe in his dream world says the contrary. Do these guys even think of how much parents are wasting due to their disorganization ? They should sit with government , NCHE and draw a plan.”

Bwesigye George, ” And why wait till today to announce. I hope they will take a step to send personal messages and emails since they are all provided at the time of application.”

Matsiko Monica Mbabazi, is vexed, ” Since March 2020 Ministry of Helath and Ministry of Education, have been studying the environment; what have they found out? Uganda Zaabu! Anyway, it is unfair for students to pay millions of shillings in terms of tuition and functional fees and still buy data…it is unfair!”

However, it is not only Makerere University, which has postponed; even other local universities have fallen suit.
