As you read this know that there is a stand off between the two government ministers.

The minister in charge of ethics and integrity Fr. Lokodo says the sex festival dubbed Nyege Nyege is satanic and should not be allowed to take place.

On the other hand, the minister in charge of Internal Affairs of the state, Gen. JJ Odongo says the sex festival should take place. This stand off seems to have given the sex festival an exaggerated hype and boost. Everyone is talking about it.

Nyege Nyege which is a Swahili word means sensual or sexual arousals. It is directly related to sex acts and not discriminating  which sex. It is rumoured to have initiated by homosexuals.

A similar festival was interrupted in 2008. It was dubbed Pass Pass Party; mainly sponsored by  Uganda Brewery’s Pilsener Lager.

A story in The New Vision and written by Pidson Kareure caused it triubles. Press conferences were convened to rectify the problems.

There was hype about that crazy dance that was creeping into Ugandan society, it was called Passa Passa.

“It is a weekly street party dance fest originating from Kingston, Jamaica. It is reported to have begun on Ash Wednesday in 2003. The name of the event was coined by a Jamaican promoter, Carl Shelley. It is performed to dancehall music,” Kareire wrote.

He continued, “The event has spread throughout the Caribbean and Colon City on Panama. It is similar to a block party. Passa Passa usually starts around 1:00am and continues until 8:00am.”

Passa Passa involves people dancing with half-naked women, crowds of music fans congregating to dance, chill-out and chat while street vendors provide refreshments. The dance is dangerous and should be done with caution. The writer warned.

Kareure further warned, “This form of entertainment is a form of social degradation by the present age standards. Morals and values are left behind on the basis of entertainment. It is a shameful trend but Ugandans seem ready to embrace it.”

In Uganda, Passa Passa was being introduced by Pilsner Lager; they asked the public to form groups of two or four people, register at any selected outlets, read the newspapers and posters for dates and locations; choose a dancehall track and begin dancing.
The winners would get a prize of a dance contract. Passa Passa, was shunned by Ugandans because its against our morals.
In the same breath, MTN’s Nyege Nyege should be shunned, it is even associated with homosexuals.
