Sylvie Owori in trouble over land grabbing

Zipper Modeling Agency CEO Sylvie Owori is in trouble over land grabbing.  News coming in on this desk indicate that the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has directed the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development to investigate the fashion guru over land grabbing allegations.

Owori, 46, is a Ugandan fashion designer and entrepreneur. She is the Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of Zipper Modeling Agency.

Owori, also currently serves as the Director of Operations under the Operation Wealth Creation – OWC, a position she was promoted to on December 28th, 2020 after serving as an OWC executive under President Museveni’s brother Gen Salim Saleh.

Owori is on the spot for grabbing the said land in Nyangole Zone, Nyangore Sub County in Tororo and ruthlessly displacing over 244 locals.

The affected locals petitioned the Speaker of Parliament through the Tororo Municipality MP Sarah Opendi over unlawful eviction, harassment and intimidation.

In their Petition, read on the floor of Parliament during the plenary sitting on Thursday as a matter of national importance, the locals allege that Owori fenced off the land and displaced families, after attacking them with bodyguards were beaten up.

Opendi told the August House that Owori has blocked pupils of Heroes Foundation Primary School and the followers of Abundant Life Church from accessing their premises claiming the two institutions were constructed on her land.

The petitioners further explained that they tried seeking interventions from the police, the Resident District Commissioner, and the Local Council leaders but to no avail.

Speaker Among directed the Minister of Lands to go on the ground for a fact-finding visit and put temporary measures to prevent the alleged violations, and referred the matter to the Committee of Parliament on Physical Infrastructure.

Unfortunately, the Speaker Anita Among is also entangled in such wrungles back home in Bukedea, where she is accused of displacing a number of locals. The equation seems not to be balancing.
