Police arrests phones and handbags snatchers in Dumisha Usalaama Operation

Following public outcry in regards to phone and bag snatching along Nakivuubo Channel, Dewinton Road, Plaza Mall among others, Kampala Police has carried out a criminal sweep operation as one of the strategies to maintain a business friendly city.

There was a time when these thugs had become kings on the Kampala streets. They would snatch women’s necklaces and handbags in full view of the public.

The recent changes in the Uganda Police Force (UPF) brought peace and atmospheric bliss. The police has been harvesting them frequently.

Like this latest swoop. The operational success was as a result of the support by public members in form of intelligence led information.

“We managed to arrest 24 suspects allegedly known to the members of the business community as key habitual criminals,” Kafero asserted.

Kafero said this exercise is part of the Dumisha Usalaama operation aimed at keeping Kampala City and its surroundings safe and free from criminality.

The root cause was revealed by former police officer Mohammed Kirumira.

For instance he revealed that Flying squad under the former leadership had the capacity to trace and locate any phone at any time in the country even beyond Ugandan borders.

Kirumira wondered how the kidnaps in Kampala and Wakiso that were operating on phones failed to be traced for weeks and days. This means all this was done by police officer who would connive with thugs.

Kirumira promised the public that he would unearth and bring down the corruption in the police force and he partly did.

“I have no problem with the administration but I have it with some thieves in police and I will finish them,” Kirumira asserted.

He warned that nobody would survive his cleaning exercise.
“By December the entire institution will be upside down with new people in various places,” Kirumira roared.
