Covid-19 gives Ugandans a chance to dodge expensive kwanjula/introduction parties

President Museveni on Covid-19

By Angela Nyakuni

While President Yoweri Museveni’s decrees on Coronavirus/ Covid-19 poured cold water on business communities like music promotion (ebivuulu) and the like, a section of Ugandan society is very happy.

A group of youths at Equatorial Mall, where most expensive party gifts and gowns are stored and sold, were found by The Drone Media, discussing with joy how president’s decrees have relieved them.

They youth held the view that they were being coerced by fun-loving girlfriends and relatives to organize very expensive kwanjula/introduction parties just to show off.  Now, the temporal policy is that any gathering should not exceed 10 individuals. This, according to the youth, is a good precedence; they say it will help them advance their excuse of following government’s directive. In other words, Covid-19 has help cost cut on expensive weddings and unnecessary family parties.

While addressing the nation, President Yower Museveni pointed out: ” It is wise that we close the schools (Pre-primary, Primary, Secondary, University, and Tertiary) starting Friday at midday. The closure is only temporary and will take one month. We should do this to deny coronavirus a chance.”

Moments before President Museveni announced the directives, a lady at Equatoria Mall, had just paid sh 6 millions for two party items; a gown and gomesi each at sh 3 millions, can you imagine! This lady’s expectations have been put off by the president’s decrees.

She will not be able to show off; what she will do is to file video clips and rain them on social media to achieve her objective of showing the world how expensive she dressed at the function.

The pandemic has actually spoiled the fun of chicks; who love to detooth their boy/man friends in the name of love.  By the time the Covid-19 comes to zero; some money will be saved because this automatic cost-cutting on luxury weddings/parties. God’s case no appeal.
