Stella Nyanzi sentenced to 18 months

Buganda Road Court has found former Makerere University Researcher Dr. Stella Nyanzi guilty on the charges of cyber harassment.

Dr. Nyanzi who was accused of disturbing the peace of President Yoweri Museveni through a poem she wrote on her Facebook last year was today found guilty by Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu.

She has however been acquitted on the charge of offensive communication on grounds that President Museveni did not appear in court to attest to it.

Magistrate Kamasanyu Gladys has set tomorrow afternoon for delivering the judgment.

The charges which she is convicted of carry a sentence of up to three years in jail or a fine of 1.4million shillings.

The 45-year-old-Stella Nyanzi, is a Ugandan anthropologist, feminist, queer rights activist, and scholar of sexuality, family planning, and public health.

Dr Stella Nyanzi was sentenced to 18 months in prison. However, she will serve only 9 months, as she had already done nine. There was chaos in court as Nyanzi undressed.

Anyway, the Bioble says in Ecclesiastes 8 Only the wise know what things really mean. Wisdom makes them smile and makes their frowns disappear. Obey the King. Do what the king says, and don’t make any rash promises to God. The king can do anything he likes, so depart from his presence; don’t stay in such a dangerous place. If Stella Nyanzi read this she will live longer.
