MPs Muhammad Ssegirinya (Kawempe North) and Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West) have been granted bail. The two legislators have been in jail since September 2021 following accusations of being behind the wave of killings by machete-wielding gangs in the Greater Masaka area.

The two MPs were granted a sh20m cash bail each.

Lord Mayor Lukwago is indeed glad that at the long last his brothers, MPs Hon.Ssewanyana Allan and Ssegirinya Muhammad are getting some temporary relief, albeit with stringent terms imposed by court.

Lukwago says this is a reprieve too to their parents and loved ones captured in these pictures at Masaka Court today. “Hope they won’t be re-arrested,” says Lukwago.

And the lawyer of the year award goes to none other than Mpuuga! The day he showed up in court is the day Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana have been released after 17 months in prison.

Recently, the Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny- Dollo vowed to ask for dismissal of the murder case against MPs SS  for Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya and Makindye West legislator Allan Ssewanyana.

Dollo said this during the opening of the new Law year 2023 at the judiciary headquarters.
He said the trial of the two legislators and their co- accused kicks off this year and he will ask a case to be dismissed if the State is not ready.

” This year the trial of MPs SS will begin and there will be no games. I will ask the trail judge to not entertain any nonsense during the trial. If the State is not ready, we shall dismiss the case” he said.

The two MPs and four other suspects who were arrested in September 2021 over Masaka gruesome killings.

Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya were arrested in August 2021 together with other suspects, Mike Sserwadda, Wamala Bulo, Mugerwa John, Wilson Ssenyonga known as Tony Nyonga and Jackson Kanyika and they have spent more than a year in jail for several charges including MurderMurder, attempted murder and financing the killings in the greater Masaka region that left 26 people dead.

Now, people are saying that the 2026 campaigns are cooked and done.  The campaigns for 2026 Parliamentary Elections for MPs Mohammad Ssegirinya (Kawempe North) and Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West) could be done, unless other new cases come up to stop them.

It will be hard for any other candidates to convince voters that they care much and have a vision for theirs Constituencies than the two initiated development programs before spending nearly two years in prison. As a voter in Makindye and Kawempe how do you see the situation?.
