Uganda in total lockdown over Covid-19

COVID-19 Measures
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni imposes drastic measures to curb spread of the deadly Covid-19 virus after the country registered 33 cases.
Measures include ;
14 – day Curfew beginning March 31, 2020 starts 10pm to 6am.
All private vehicles, motorbike taxis suspended for 14 days This is in addition to buses, taxis and passenger trains suspended a week ago.
No movement of persons between 10pm and 6am. Security tightened to ensure compliance.
Vehicles allowed are ambulances, Heath Ministry vehicles, fire fighters, security vehicles, cargo trucks if crew is not more than three persons, cargo trains, petroleum trucks, garbage trucks.
All shopping Malls closed for 14 days
Supermarkets that sell non food items suspended for 14 days
Social services allowed include clinics, pharmacies, banks, telecom companies, food deliveries, private security firms,
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Vetinery shops, retail shops for food..
Gathering of more than five persons banned
Bank loans, tax obligations , debts owed to National Water and Revenue Authority to be discussed for relaxation.
Donations and food distribution by politicians and other person’s is banned and offenders risk being charged for attempted murder.
Food markets allowed if the sellers and buyers observe four – metres distance and vendors wash their hands regularly.
All persons must observe four metres distance , no coughing and sneezing in public.
To avoid any doubts all Ugandans, who have no serious work in town are advised to remain home.
As the President was completing his address Telecast live on all television channels and radio stations, .pandemonium broke out on roads especially in Kampala as motorists rushed for last minute shopping in Super markets. Most Supermarkets were bombarded by clients, and they were prompted to first close doors to observe acceptable social distance.
While most Ugandans expressed appreciation to President Museveni for a bold and timely intervention to save lives from the deadly COVID-19 virus some expressed worries that they could die of hunger than from Covid-19 virus.
As Ugandans prepared to go to bed today, many are expected to go for a mega shopping to stock food supplies since there is a likelyhood of supplies running out.
Uganda is yet to record any deaths althougj the country has registered 33 cases who have tested positive from Covid-19 virus.
