Cheptegei has also called upon Ugandans in Diaspora to support their country’s tourism sector by visiting and discovering more about the it.

“I’m delighted to be here this morning-to express solidarity with all the players in Uganda’s tourism industry, as they seek to rebuild and industry that has been nearly destroyed by Covid 19 pandemic. I am deeply grateful to the Ugandan Tourism Board ( UTB) for having chosen me for this high responsibility, to be my country’s tourism ambassador.

I look forward to sharing my Ugandan story to the world. In the same breath I call upon Ugandans especially those in the diaspora to make it a point to visit and discover more about our country,” Cheptegei said. Eddy Kenzo, who was appointed on 1st September 2020 has been the face of the sector.

Eddy Kenzo was unveiled as Uganda’s Tourism ambassador in September, 2020 amidst lockdown.  The tourism industry was among the sectors greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. While unveiling Kenzo, Hon. Kiwanda said that his job was to market the country but he couldn’t do it alone.  Hon. Kiwanda also said that Kenzo’s music had played a big role in marketing Uganda outside.

“Eddy Kenzo is now our Tourism Board Ambassador and I thank him for singing songs like ‘Sitya Loss’, ‘Sitamina’ and so many others which have helped in selling Uganda internationally,” said
