Court nullifies NUP’s councilor from Kawaala Ward

Court at Mwanga II filled to capacity while supporters of Ggulu thumbed up as the Chief Magistrate nullified the elections of NUP’s councilor from Kawaala Ward and declared NRM’s candidate prince Wasajja Eddie Ggulu.

Ggulu petitioned the court to declare him the genuine winner of last elections for Rubaga LC3 Divisional Council, citing irregularities, forgery, and malice after some of his votes were deliberately left out.

He further prayed that the court orders his opponent Henry Kalyango and the Electoral Commission to pay costs, all which the court allowed.

Passing judgement Monday afternoon, the Mwanga II Chief Magistrate, Nansambu Esther Rebecca declared Ggulu the winner of the contested vote, ordered EC to gazette him immediately and ordered Kalyango and the second respondent to pay costs.

The announcement set the court, the surroundings and Kawaala ward to immediate cerebrations as NRM supporters danced and shouted off NUP supporters who were sobbing at court.

The court cited the fact that Ggulus votes at Up to date p/s were maliciously left out because the results of his three opponents were not affected, wondering how the sail violence at the polling station could only affect the petitioner .

But NUP loser Kalyango and his lawyer said they may appeal the judgement.
Speaking to his supporters at court ,prince Ggulu upheld the wisdom of court for seeing the open truth and gave him victory.

He said he was going to take his third term as councilor with heart and unite all people for genuine services and development.

Celebrations which started at court went on with a powerful drive of hundreds of supporters until Kawaala township where singing and dancing continued. Slowly by slowly, the NRM is regaining its glory in the lost seats. Ggulu is not alone, this is another wave that might sweep NUP back to its roots.
