fleeced by telecom companies

By Bart Kakooza

For quite sometime now, I have endured the frustration of being fleeced by telecom companies through accessibility to internet data, until I gathered credible information about how it happens.

First and foremost it is clearly evident that it is an inside job. I fell victim of the scam when last week I purchased 10 gbs worth 35,000/- from Mtn and loaded it on their Wakanet device. After watching 3 short videos on YouTube the data ran out. I abandon the the device out of frustration.

Yesterday I decided to use my journalistic investigatiom skills to find out what exactly happens. I forced them to give me a print out indicating that data usage. To my shock, i discoverd that even after the data was declared used up on Wedneaday morning, the print out shows that I was still using the same data on Thursady (which was a public holiday I never stepped on my office) Friday and Saturady.

Sunday was skipped. On Monday I went back to MTN with the device to follow up on the issue but was told the data was used up last wednesday yet the print out indicates that it was still being used up to yeterday. Surprisingly, among the sites that were being accessed are whatsapp, instagram and snapChart!  These are our Telecom Companies.

I do not subscribe to any of these! They tried to use all excuses to shift blame to me saying someone accessed my password, which is of course is not true, systems upgrades etc, etc. All of wich didnt make sense. This kind of confirms the allegations that there is a mafia cartel in MTN which accesses clients data and diverts it to other users.

I am sure many people out there have fallen victims of this scam but as you know, Ugandans opt to keep quiet and dont complain. Im continuing my investigations and Im calling upon people who have been fleeced this way to come up and join me in this struggle to un earth the scam.

  • I don’t mind you call include even my name’s, am hustling with Airtel, they disconnected our office internet in December 2022, while the office was closed because we were in the field! Half of that month we were away, now they have billed us full charge for Dec, Jan, Feb 2023 well knowing that they disconnected us. All what you said is very true, because we ran from MTN thinking Airtel is better, wapi. My brother Bart am with you. Bachu
