Islamic State claims the Komamboga Bomb
Contrary to what Uganda Police Force said yesterday that it was domestic terrorism, an Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the Komamboga bomb that killed one person in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, on Saturday night.
The militant group said in a statement posted in an affiliated Telegram channel late on Sunday.
The group said that some of its members detonated a bomb in a bar where “members and spies of the Crusader Ugandan government were gathering” in Kampala.
The bomb, packed with nails and shrapnel, targeted a pork restaurant on the outskirts of the capital, police said on Sunday.
Information gathered indicated that three men, disguised as customers, visited the restaurant, placed a polythene bag under a table and left moments before the explosion, police said.
The bomb killed a 20-year-old waitress and injured three people, two of whom were in critical condition, police said, adding all indications suggest an act of domestic terror.
President Yoweri Museveni said the attack “seems to be a terrorist act”. In 2010, the Somali Islamist militant group al Shabaab killed dozens of people in Kampala in a bomb attack, saying it was punishing Uganda for deploying troops in Somalia.
The Saturday Komamboga bomb blast that locked Digida Pork Joint in Kawempe Division, Kampala has devastated residents, especially pork eaters.
A girl identified as Emily Nyinaneza died on the spot. Another victim, a gentleman, died while transported to hospital. The scene was cordoned off by police.
Hours after the explosion, CP Enanga Fred, the Police Spokesman confirmed the bomb blast and said, “the Police at KMP, have responded to a serious blast which occurred on the 23.10.2021, at around 9 pm, at Digida Pork Eating Point, Komamboga, in Kawempe Division, Kampala.”
Afande Enanga, however, maintained that, “One person was fatally wounded, and 7 others rushed to Mulago National Referral hospital, with serious injuries.” The Komamboga bomb blast, has made tongues roll. Police is blamed, but the revelers as well as the proprietor share the blame. The attackers are cursed!
