Katikiiro’s daughter introduces Ofwono Opondo

Last Saturday Samantha Nanziri, daughter of Peter Charles Mayiga, the Katikiiro of Buganda Kingdom, introduced her groom to be; Emmanuel Ofwono, to the family at their home in Lweza on Entebbe Road.

The function was reportedly glamorous, but now the subjects are grumbling over the union. Male Mabirizi Kiwanuka says, ” The first one you gave to a Munyoro, and this one you have given to Ofwono. You claim you are expanding the Kingdom………”

Bukenya Bukenya says, “Mutukubiliza kuza Buganda ku ntiko kyoka bawala bamwe mufafumbiza basaja banyongoli kati buganda ngenda kuwangala etya.”

Lee Edward Galabuzi says, “Simanyi mutabani w’ofwono Opondo Omuvumi w’obwakabaka. People don’t learn from history. Kati olwo abaana bo baki? Confusion just!”

Joseph Acrons says, “Naye banange abawala munonyaakyi…. Kati laba ate ono ye gweyanonozeza…. “Ofwono” we should marry within our cultures intermarriage is what is killing our identity.”

The groom, Emmanuel Ofwono is the son of NRM’s (National Resistance Movement)  Ofwono Opondo, the Director of Media Centre. This is what they say, ” Tororo marries Buganda or Buganda introduces Tororo.” Drones gather that yakyalidde embuga; he bought maps of Buganda, paid for Buganda Certificates etc

Ofwono is now a fully-fledged Muko. He can now swear in Luganda, walk like a Muganda and will always walk with his neck high because he is a recognized Muko.

In this marvelous celemony, Nanziri  introduced Ofwono to her parents in a Kwanjula ceremony that was held on 2nd October 2021. The ceremony was attended by a few close friends and relatives from both sides.

The COVID-19 lockdown may have slowed down Ugandan partying but it surely didn’t stop them. Although many couples couldn’t wait for the government to lift the lockdown restrictions which restricted weddings to only 20 guests, others who wanted to host more numbers decided to wait.

Charles Peter Mayiga’s daughter, Samantha Nanziri, and her fiance Emmanuel Ofwono lit up gossip pages.
