MTN made me sleep on Nairobi Streets

MTN customer reveals his pain, “I am in Nairobi, I had money on my mobile money account, I one time wanted to withdrawal some money (1m). Not from an agent but from “clever business men” since MTN has no presence in Kenya.

It happened that I wasn’t able to load the mobile money menu (this is a common case when on roaming) even when I placed the simcard in another phone. I tried to reach MTN customer care but in vain till I had to make a direct call to MTN towers- the HQ’s reception, it was so costly since its wasn’t toll free number & I had to keep online as they extend my call to the respondent…. all they had to tell me was to either reboot my phone or put the simcard in another phone- something I told them I had done but failed…

while in Nairobi still I was told that they were to update my mobile money menu with in 24hrs (as they always claim). I called them back after 24hrs had elapsed but still the problem had persisted but they kept on postponing….After over a week of making expensive call following up my query, i had to be harsh on them to tell me whether they will be able to help me or not!

This is when they told me how they had failed to update my mobile money menu remotely since I was on roaming… in Nairobi. Sadly after all the expenses I incurred they told me all I had to do was to board back to Kampala for it will be easy to be assisted while in Kampala. Mscweee!!!

MTN often annoys customers. Recently, a customer at Mukwano Mall on Kyagwe Road told this website that her mobile money balance dissappeared in thin air. She had kept her money for six months. After she could not find her money she was told to write formal letter and thereafter apply for statements, which were all costly.
