Museveni warns NRM historicals against harassing Muhoozi. Now, on January 3, 2023, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba tweeted: “In the cannibalistic politics of NRM, let me say this, those who fight my father, fight me and those who fight me, fight my father.”

Muhoozi’s father is President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Muhoozi is perceived as Uganda’s next President, although a small section of ageing army generals have issued a stinging rebuke against him insisting that his father is still fit to steer Uganda forward.

However, the larger percentage of the voters who are the youth have since asked Museveni to retire Muhoozi from the army and allow him ample time to build his political career as he prepares to contest for the highest office in the land in 2026.

Many times, Interior Minister Otafiire has referred to “standby generator” as dysfunctional.

Muhoozi confidently said he would surprise the NRM old guard.

This website has learnt that President Museveni has intervened and cautioned the old generals against hounding Muhoozi.

Sometime last year Museveni said his son’s name “Muhoozi” means avenger and anyone who hurts him (Museveni) would taste his son’s wrath.

Whereas details of the meeting are scanty, a State House source told this website that Museveni asked the NRM historicals to leave Muhoozi alone because he raises pertinent issues particularly corruption which has engulfed all public offices including the army.

The President last year further said that whereas he was patient with unscrupulous individuals in government, Muhoozi isn’t.

In fact Muhoozi recently announced that Museveni had allowed him to “clean up” Ministry of Defence of deep rooted corruption

Minister Kahinda Otafiire had made it a habit to attack Muhoozi on every fora while addressing members of the public.

A source said that Museveni agreed to contest in 2026 as demanded by the historicals but also ordered them to back off his son.

When Muhoozi got wind of the meeting, he tweeted in vernacular “The Banyankore say ‘Omwaana omukuru aba murumuna weishe.’” Loosely translated as First born of a family is considered a brother to his father.

He would also indirectly caution those fighting him that they are directly fighting Gen. Museveni.

In Ankole, tradition contends that “your fathers enemies are directly your enemies and vice vasa.”
