Mwesigwa Rukutana bids fare thee

Mwesigwa Rukutana eulogizes: Over the years, I have gotten used to the dawnly travels to the airport, either to fly to destinations abroad, or to pick a signatory arriving from abroad. But today’s journey ain’t any of those. Iam traveling to pick a brother, friend and inspirer. Neither is this picking ordinary.

This friend will not give me his usual wide smile, exposing strong, big African teeth that easily push the lips off to expose beautiful black gum. Iam here fantasizing him asking me; “you fool, you have nothing better to do than waiting for me at dawn, as if I don’t know my way home?” then I will respond; “your problem is getting drunk over free Red Wine on board, as if you can’t afford it yourself”

Then we shall hug and laugh heartily But alas!! This conversation will not take place here on planet, for, my friend has already flown away to extra-terrestrial jurisdiction, where, I hear, the sun never sets.

Now, who again will call me a fool, silly, stupid, useless, and I feel proud of the purity of the heart of the “abusar”? The plane is landing in five minutes, we are told; how will he emerge from the plane? They have dressed us with reflector jackets to enable us go down the tarmac; I did that so many times when I still had power.

I remember the anxiety I would have. Today, I don’t understand my feelings. My heart, spirit and soul are numb. Iam just there, a moving corpse. Pray for me, the plane has landed. And the real hell has landed on me and is chocking me……
