South African National’ Dies in Entebbe Expressway Car Crash

Police are investigating circumstances under which a one Thomas Magezi died in a road accident on Entebbe Expressway on Sunday morning.

Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said Magezi was being driven by a one George Waigumbuli when the Pajero brand vehicle registration number UAY 259H hit a pavement and crashed.

Waigumbuli and his wife Racheal Namuli who also was in the car, sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment at hospitals in Kampala.

“We highly suspect it was due to over speeding or possibility of driver having or even having been drunk.

The body of the deceased is currently at Nsambya hospital for postmortem.

The vehicle has since been towed to Lubowa police station to facilitate investigations into the incident.

Kayima said police intend to establish if indeed Magezi is a South African National and was part of the South African delegation which attended the giveaway ceremony of Bridget Birungi at former premier Amama Mbabazi’s residence in Kampala on Saturday.

The Entebbe expressway remains dark pending installation of street lights.

The accident underscores the need to regulate traffic on the road especially at night until the road is lit up.
