The woman, who worked as a housemaid for a Lebanese couple, allegedly stole the money from the couple’s bedroom in September last year.

The couple claimed that this was not the first time they caught the housemaid stealing money from them. She allegedly stole money from the couple in March.

“I spoke to her about it and asked her not to steal,” the Lebanese woman said.

The couple said they kept their money locked in a drawer in their bedroom, but that on September 29 the housemaid was seen with a plastic bag that she carried outside.

The couple was alarmed when they discovered the next day that the housemaid had left, and that a total of Dh1 million in various currencies was missing in their drawer.

Police were able to track down the Ugandan woman and arrest her on October 19. During interrogation, she admitted to stealing the money and handing it to a man who helped her smuggle the cash out of the country.

A police officer testified that the woman said that her accomplice gave her Dh5,500 and helped her hide until she could flee the UAE.
