They say the bush cannot argue with fire and a tree cannot argue with an axe. This is what singer Jose Chameleone probably didn’t know last night when he almost slapped the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) enforcement officer.

Chameleone triggered a barrage of verbal artillery to the humble URA law enforcement officer who approached him, asking for papers of the car; a “Mpenkoni” Landcruiser V8 that carries Southern Sudan registered number plates SSD 499D.

The scuffle took some hours before the belligerent parties seemed to have agreed to sort it out after Chameleone finished singing. The singer, Jose Chameleone was slated to perform live on BBS TV.

Today, URA enforcement officers  impounded the car, which is registered in South Sudan with number plates SSD 499B.

Finally the car is impounded

n a video that is going viral online shows the 2021 Lord Mayor hopeful who was getting late for the performance in a tight argument with a top URA official.

The official is heard asking the singer to produce the documents showing vehicle registration, but Chameleon was not ready to oblige to the orders.

“You cannot come to me on a public holiday and start bringing your nonsense. We are fed up, we are tired! Today is a public holiday. Jesus is risen. When does URA rest ?” Chameleon is heard asking.

Chameleon pleaded he had documents at home and that he was willing to go to his home with the officer after his performance live on television.

When the officer refused, Chameleon changed his colors and softened. Somehow, he managed to convince the taxman and the vehicle survived being towed away.

It’s not the first time Chameleon is getting involved in a scuffle with URA over tax issues. Most notably, in 2014 just before his TUBONGE live concert at Lugogo cricket Oval, the singer’s Escalade was towed over 42 million shillings tax arrears.

Besides, when Chameleone imported his Escalade car, he dodged Malaba customs and drove to Seguku his home, where it was still impounded to URA headquarters until he cleared taxes.

The Mengo scenery however left onlookers questioning Jose Chameleone’s attitude towards government taxes, which is wanting!
