News Reporter Eva Namugabi flies to Cairo for training

The Workers Eye magazine and Radio One FM News Reporter Ms Eva Namugabi, has flown out to Cairo, Egypt for training.

Namugabi who is also a Uganda Journalists Union (UJU) member received a return airticket from Press Officer at Egyptian Embassy in Uganda Ms Riham Medhat( as seen in the photo).

Ms Eva Namugabi will attend training for African journalists under sponsorship by the Egyptian Government in Cairo from November 1 – 21, 2019.

According UJU General Secretary, Stephen Ouma Bwire, the training is organised by the Cairo – based Union of African Journalists (UAJ) and the Egyptian Information Ministry. .

Journalists from 25 African countries will attend the 54th training course in Cairo. Uganda Journalists Union is affiliated to the Union of African Journallsts.

A 20-day training aims at enhancing integration among African journalists to unite and persistently work to maintain standards on the continent.

This particular one commences November 1 and ends November 20, 2019, and was organised by the Union of African journalists (UAJ) and the Supreme Council of Media Regulations.

The training attracts a representative each from Ghana, Zambia, South Africa, Togo, La Cote d’voire, Senegal, Chad, Cameroon, Egypt and Nigeria.

The rest are Mali, Algeria, Tunisia, South Sudan, Sudan, Rwanda, Uganda and Malawi.

It is a mechanism to train African Journalists in different fields and broaden their knowledge base in different aspects of news reporting.

Participants receive lectures on the role of translation and press to enhance cultural dialogue, peace and security in Africa, publicity influence on press media in Africa, African culture and its social and economic income.

Additionally, the journalists are sensitised on the ‘Development of Hydraulic Resources in Africa’, ‘Bureaucracy and Development in Africa’ and ‘Tools of External Policy: Press and media as models’.

As part of the training, the journalists visit some tourist sites including the Egyptian Museum, the Mediterranean Sea, the Nile river, the Pyramid and Phoenix, the library of Alexandria, the Royal Jewellery Palace, the Media Production City, the head office of the UAJ, some media outlets like the Al akhar and Al ahram News Paper, as well as some religious complexes and meet the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports.

 The training helps to contribute to the development of their skills as media practitioners and strengthen the unity between journalists across Africa. Participants get certificates at the end of the training.
