Basketball leaders make sh488m out of President Paul Kagame and Lt. Gen Kainerugaba pledges

Uganda’s Basketball team in Kigali has used the situation to make money.  However, someone could end up in Kitalya Prison because there is clear discrepancy here.  Sources say Rwanda cleared the hotel bills and it seems true, but it is also true Lt. Gen Kainerugaaba Muhoozi paid, but also the government of Uganda paid. So the team leaders are in excess of sh488m.

However, individuals are oversimplifying this issue and ignoring the reputation of Ugandans when it comes to money.

Just yesterday, a minister was in parliament claiming sh300m had been released for the team. In small scattered bits of information, the team president first said the debt of sh188m had been paid without saying who. When it emerged that Rwanda had paid, he brought Lt. Gen Muhoozi into the picture. He also posts praising the hosts for treating the team well.

He even claimed the 3 star Park Inn Hotel in Kigali is 5 star. The hotel says its bills were paid by the Rwanda football federation. The team was supposed to have been evicted last Sunday, but was not. What had changed?

The guess is that FERWAFA paid, but the team aware that money was being processed in Kampala kept quiet because they knew they were covered until Monday Sept 6, when they get out.

The revelation in parliament creates a crisis for them and they quickly invoke Muhoozi’s name. Muhoozi like any human being does not mind positive coverage. Then the hotel spoils the party by revealing that the money was from within Rwanda.

The team president does not talk of any arrangement such as borrowing from FERWAFA and then reimbursing which would be quiet feasible. So who paid the teams’ bills, when and how?
